Where to stay in Nikko
Nikko hotels & accommodations
Very spacious room Delicious and hearty meal The facilities is a bit old but it is understandable as the hotel have some age and located in the montain.
Sum up: highly recommended! high C/P hotel What else can you ask for such great quality with that price? Staffs are friendly, facilities are a little bit old but clean. Rooms are warm. Cute little decorations are everywhere showing the love and caring from this hotel. Breakfasts are also included in the price so you don't have to go outside on cold winter morning but...
The hotel was very nice and clean. The area is very quiet. It is easy to get to Nikko, but you have to be willing to walk to the train station and be aware that the trains are much less frequent than in other parts of Japan (once per hour). It is most convenient if you bring your own car. They had a nice buffet with a wide variety of food and there was always evening e...
I traveled with my young children and my parents to Nikko for a 3 night stay at Nikko Station Hotel Classic. We enjoyed the stay very much. The location of the hotel is right across from the train stations. If driving there is ample, free parking available. To get to the main tourist attractions you will have to walk up about 20 minutes or catch a bus that will take yo...
I would give more stars if I could. This is the best hotel I’ve ever been. Locations were good, it’s just infront of Chuzenji Lake and you can reach famous Kegon Falls by walk. The staffs are very very polite, they served us like a king and queen. It’s funny sometimes because they were too good everytime, they have high minimum service operation to visitors. And don’t...
Thanks a lot for your great services during our stay. This is clearly the best night of our honeymoon trip in Japan. Everyone in the hotel treated us with excellent services. They really did the best to provide the best service. The hotel is so beautiful and clean and so peaceful. The outdoor onsen is amazing. The public onsen is also great. The hotel also arranged t...
A must-go when you visit Nikko. Hotel cannot be recognized by Google Maps for some reason, but this is beside the Toshogu Shrine. Staff was very helpful, though with little bit of language barrier. Breakfast was good. Didn’t get to try the Onsen. Maybe next time! Highly recommended.
The location is excellent and easy to walk to from Chuzenji lake (45m walk), alternatively with local busses between Nikko and Yumoto Onsen stopping by just infront of the hotel every 30 minutes. The hotel staff is also really helpful and will come pick you up anywhere in the area if you call them. The hotel itself is a nice building with beautiful and cozy rooms whi...
New modern hotel and super close to the supermarket where you can get cheap discounted sashimi etc after 6 pm. 3 mins walk from Tobu Nikko Station. Room is spacious and clean. However, it will be good if there are hangers and hanger rack. Breakfast is simple but tasty, especially the potato curry. Pay 500 yen to enjoy the onsen at Classic Hotel Nikko. Will recommend.
If you come to Nikko and want onsen, you should try this hotel. fantastic breakfast , dinner and onsen. Location is not near to train station but there is bus and taxi
We checked into the hotel quite late at night. Was kinda sad because we arrived nikko later than expected and i thought we were gonna miss the dinner.. but to our pleasant surprise the staff actually kept the food aside and set it up for us, even though it was about 2h past the stated dinner time! The traditional dinner (and breakfast too) was SO amazing - gotta try i...
Here is what I wish I knew before booking Kanaya Kinugawa: Pros: -the staff are the sweetest and go to great lengths to communicate and serve -the food is superb, some of the best we had in Japan. Things we had tried in other restaurants and didn’t enjoy, the restaurant at Kanaya converted us into fans of that dish. Truly everything we ate was beyond delicious. -the ...
Really appreciate the level of service that Matsuya hotel provides. As we did not have a dinner reservation, they recommended and drove us to a local dinner shop nearby. Even though they tried to communicate with us with some limited English, their level of service is phenomenal and we will definitely return to Matsuya again. The onsen inside and outdoors are awesome!...
It is easier to get here by car than train... it is about 45 minutes from Nikko proper using mass transit. The rooms are a little dated and wall paper peeling a little bit. However the rooms are super clean. The futon was especially comfortable. The little snack and tea they left delicious. The view from the room was amazing. The Onsen was great as well. The breakfast...
It was a great value of money, the hotel provides us with an authentic Japanese experience. Though the shower area was very small (I believed it was placed there during renovation of the hotel), the room itself was very spacious. Location was ok, not far from Nikko city center, but there’s not much going on during the night time in the area. Overall, I had quite a goo...
This was the first hotel I stayed at during my trip to Japan. I stayed in the annex portion (down the street a bit). One bit of warning, the hotel locks up from 11pm - 7am. no-one gets in or out. I almost missed last check-in (arrived at 10:42pm) and am not sure what would have happened if I arrived after 11pm. The hotel is about half way between the train station...
The staff are always more than willing to help and some with very good English. The food, the onsen and the room are first rate. Highly recommend this hotel. Thank you to all at Nikko Hoshinoyado
I know Japan and onsen very well. Yumoto Itaya Onsen is perfectly located in the heart of Yumoto, a small, remote town in the Nikko area. It is mid to small sized, charming, historic, and comfortable. It is not brand new, impressive or 4-5 stars. It is a humble, family run lodging that has taken care of itself and cares about its customers. My room had new tata...
the price is cheap, the Ryokan is also clean and comfortable . looking forward to go to there again later if i travel to nikko next time !
It's a beautiful ryokan with nice onsens. You should consider this place only if you have more time spent in Nikko. Be prepared to spend half a day traveling to this place. Good for those looking for ultimate relaxation The place feels so "Zen"! It's a perfect place for anyone who wants to get back to nature. There's a small beautiful stream just 10 min walk from the ...
I booked a single bed in a 8-bed dorm room. The bed was a bunk bed, with a fair enough good mattress. It has an electric heated mattress. The bed comes with its own sockets, privacy curtains, and does not have any own light. For this dorm (and the rest of the floor), there are 1 shower, 2 toilets and 1 separate sink. The shower is clean, with a medium power shower and ...
Staff is very helpfuf and one of the major highlights of the hotel is it’s hot bath or onsen. The hotel also has a 5 star restraint. Excellent place for a restful and stress free environment.
Great view from the room, free private baths on reservation base. Dinner and breakfast buffet with great variety. A bit old hotel with budget price.
We have really enjoyed our 2 nights stay here but this hotel may not be for everyone. If you like to stay in historical places this place is for you. It is a bit faded. Pros: Scheduled hotel shuttle bus from / to the station (even of you miss it the local bus stops near the hotel); Nice friendly staff; Lovely historical feel of the common areas; great views. LOCATION ...
Stay Nikko Guesthouse is a wonderful option if you are planning a visit to the town. We found our traditional tatami room an absolute pleasure, as were our hosts. Some of the best hospitality we have experienced in Japan combined with good, clean facilities were important to us after a long journey and so we were very happy. The location is good, right near the river s...
My trip involved walking from Tokyo to Nikko, and I was mostly looking for hotels in which to just sleep for a cheap price. Being Golden Week in Japan, most of the hotels I stayed in were more expensive than their worth, however, Hotel Famitic Nikko was a real bargain. The staff was welcoming when I arrived, and not shocked to the point of not-being-able-to-communicate...
We had the best stay at Honke Bankyo. The ryokan is situated in a small town deep in the mountains so it was quite a long journey to get there. The scenery along the way was beautiful so it made the trip very enjoyable. The staff at the ryokan were all very welcoming and helpful. Our room was on the top floor and had an amazing view overlooking the river and the suspen...
Nikko Guesthouse Sumica is unbelievably close to Tobu-Nikko and Nikko stations. I barely walked towards the other side of the station and it was there, so you can rush to the bus station too if you don't want to miss the bus. The owners are lovely, we talked about Japan and my country and shared some experiences. Congratulations again for your 7th anniversary! Now, the...
i booked okunikko konishi hotel but when arrived there to call for picking up at somewhere near the hotel and just found out that the hotel was not what i had booked. The hotel name is okunikko konishi hotel but they did not have our booking number. it was another hotel called okunikko kogen hotel. There is next to the hotel. i did not what was wrong between them. i...
This is a (modified) traditional ryokan (Japanese inn). You wear shoes in the hotel common area but not in your room, which has traditional Japanese floor bedding. It was comfortable and clean, though not large, with ample bedding. There is a traditional Japanese onsen (public bath) but it's not exactly 'public' because there is only one - usually there's a men's and a...
Cheap places to stay in Nikko
We slept only one night in the guesthouse but it was extrordinary. We had the chance to be alone in the onsen. The owner are really nice. It was for us the best part of our trip to Nikko (the weather was'nt really good)
Nikko Park Lodge Mountain Side was a bit of a far walk from the station (we didnt try walking, but it feels like it would be a 15-20min walk with potential of going the wrong way). A cab from station to the lodge cost less than 800yen. Room we had was amazing.. 2storeys, with 4beds (making it very good value if we had 4person) with a small chandelier to light up the ro...
The hotel is located quite far out from Nikko city unless you drive. If you are travelling by the highway from the city there will be a charge of using their tunnel 260yen and 150yen per trip. The hotel has their onsen which has both outdoor and indoor pool. Great onsen.

Good location to travel Nikko and Oku-Nikko; Close to JR and Tobu Nikko, and a big supermarket within walking distance. The front is a cafe, and the entrance to Hostel is at side door. The staff are friendly and helpful with questions. Stayed in spacious 4bed female dorm during Winter. As the dorm is not equipped with heater, it was cold but bed comes with electric hea...

A newly renovated room was given to us, spacious and clean. Good for family of 4-6members. There is also complimentary snacks inside the room. The staff was friendly and quite accommodating.
Clean and nice Small hotel, best cost/price if U travel two. But the hot spring is really too hot for me to go in.
We very much enjoyed our stay here. We had basic japanese style room with 3 futons and a table. Towels, bathroom kimonos and slippers were provided as well as bathroom accessories. The place is facing the river and forest, we slept with the window open, very fresh clean air. The room smelled a bit, for some reason many of these types of hotels have it's strange smell, ...

a nice, not very new, but very clean tidy hotel with a very helpful stuff. it could be better if they accept credit cards, but the staff was very helpful and lifted me to 7-11 so I can get cash. thanks!
Great view from the room, free private baths on reservation base. Dinner and breakfast buffet with great variety. A bit old hotel with budget price.

We had a brief (one night) but pleasant stay at Gasthof Ami. There being so much to see in Nikko we did not have as much time to enjoy the pension as we would have liked to, especially to try out the outdoor onsen. We had an elaborate breakfast served in a nice setting. The upstairs bedroom in the main house is spacious enough to accommodate a small family, with extra ...
we booked this hotel and stayed during the high season of tourism in Nikko area,Autumn. If you can afford high-pricey hotel in area around Tobu nikko train station , that's OK. However, if you want more serene and very kind staffs treating you, this hotel is well recommended. Its location is not too good ,between Kinugawa-onsen station and Kosagoe station , there is sh...

The inn owners treated us with the level warmth and kindness normally reserved for family and close friends. The night we arrived at the JR station, it had been snowing all day and the temperature was near freezing after sunset. The inn owner picked us up at the station free of charge and dropped us off at a ramen restaurant for dinner. He then dropped us off at the...
A bit far from the city Nikko
Oneday trip from Tokyo to look around Nikko area, did not expect much about hotel only location made me to choose this. However the stay was much better than I expected, even better than one in Tokyo which is two times expensive this one! All staffs were very helpful and nice, the ambience of open-air bath area was pleasant. Moreover the room and other facilities like...
Very clean, but encountered hard time to locate the Apartment and unlock the door under self check-in system. No water heater in the unit and must go down to the indoor onsen to bath. I think it's more suitable for budget business travelers where the kitchen can be utilized when necessary.

What can I say, I adored the place. Situated in a beautiful spot 15 minutes walk away from Nikko station. Yuji (the owner) is an amazing host. He does his absolute best to ensure your stay is comfortable and even goes out of his way to help you plan your activities in Nikko. He offers free pickup and drop off to and from the station. We like our room because it had two beds ,big and has its own outside Onsen Tub.It just takes long to run the bath to a nice hot temp. Hotel is 10 minutes from the train station. Google and apple maps will take you to a school but helpful locals will help you find it !Tip: it’s not on the main road so you take the stairs opposite to where the main entrance is.The food...

The staff were brilliant! They are so sweet! Normally we can't do a last minutes cancellation but we can with Nikko Senhime Monogatari. I booked for 2 rooms with 4 people and a child but at the last minutes 2 people and a child were cancelled. They let us cancel their reservation to the rooms and dinner/breakfast prices with agoda so that I can get some of it back. ...
Have always stay at conventional hotel and this is our first time staying at a Ryokan. The experience totally bring our expectations to the next level, the hospitality was warm and welcoming. When we walk towards the Ryokan with our luggages, the staff literally ran out to welcome us and help us bring our luggages all the way into our room. As we are foreigners, they e...
The staff was really nice and had interacted with customers. They were helpful especially the train and other local services were influenced by Typhoon. This is okay to talk in simple English. The public onsen is nice, too. The only thing that might not br good is the hotel location and insufficient car parking place. Anyway, this hotel is recommended.
Stayed at Japanese room, great Japanese room experience. Enough space for 4 adults + 2 children. Room very clean, excellent staffs performance/services (but not sure if you can’t speak/read Japanese-I went to Japan’s Uni so Japanese Language is not a problem to me). Japanese Breakfast & dinner are great “Japanese” experience too. Location a bit off the main extractions...
Loved our weekend there! The breakfasts and dinner provided as part of the rate was exceptional!!! The staff went out of their way to help us with everything (including driving us to get some tour tickets without us asking!). The onsen was well equipped and we loved the one outside facing the river. The hotel itself is very near the Kinugawa Onsen station (express trai...
I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends. But, if somebody goes there in winter time like us, note that there is no bus after 4:30 pm from Tobu Nikko station as it is on top of a mountain, plus it's very windy.

Easy access from Tokyo by train. Highlands with rivers, waterfalls, lakes, hiking, trees, flowers. Also world heritage temples.
Very beautiful natural surroundings and temples to visit, easily accessible and tourist friendly. However restaurants closes early, dinner options are either hotel food or less than great hole in the wall places that remains open late.
Nikko is one of the my best impressions in Japan. Nikko is very beautiful place with incredible various nature and historical atmosphere.
I enjoy Nikko national park and beautiful small town with many Onsen. Temple and Palace are great and stunning.
Should visit here once in a life time. I'm very impress with nature and the historical places here. It was stunning!
I absolutely fall in love with this city. All the main attractions are stunningly beautiful no matter what season you visit.
A great place to relax, visit temples, a large popular waterfall, world heritage listed temples. See the real Japan just out of Tokyo.
Great city, peaceful and quiet city, great historical sites, you can spends whole day to explore the art of japanese building on this sites.
If you are considering Japan and want an experience away from the crush & over populated cities go to Nikko.
People at Nikko is very nice, I arrived there around 7 PM. and I couldn't see any bus there, It's my lucky that I ask for the way to the hotel with local people, they had trying to find the hotel and finally they take me to the hotel by their car, I love Japan so much, I promise I will back to the Tochigi again.
Friendly little mountain town with a wonderful World Heritage site. I have travelled around Asia for a long time but this place took my breath away.
Nikko / Kinugawa regions have beautiful mountain secenery, historical temples/shrines and great onsens.
By the time you arrive at Nikko Station, you had better ask for the timetable for bus and map of Nikko.
If you like snowing place please come to Nikko you will find snow all around. Temperature is very cold where is good for the one who like cold place or escape from hot city.
